Q&A with Jan van Vliet, Digital Guardian’s New VP and GM of EMEA
Data Insider recently had a chance to interview our new vice president and general manager for our EMEA region, Jan van Vliet. Read on to find out Jan’s primary reasons for joining Digital Guardian, the trends he’s seeing in the market and his plans for the EMEA region.
We're excited to have Jan joining the company, coming from a long history of success in the information security industry. In addition to the Q&A below, you can read his official announcement here.
Greg Funaro: Jan – thanks for joining us and welcome to Digital Guardian. Why don’t you start off by telling us why you joined Digital Guardian?
Jan van Vliet: I am so pleased to be joining Digital Guardian and took the position as VP and GM for EMEA for a few reasons. First, the company’s Threat Aware Data Protection Platform is second to none in protecting data from both insider threats as well as malicious external attackers. Second, DG is a proven “Leader” for its Data Loss Prevention technology by both Gartner and Forrester, and the company was a recent winner of SC Media’s Best DLP Platform at the RSA Conference in February. This type of industry recognition affirmed my interest and confidence in Digital Guardian. And last but not least, I was very impressed by the great people who were leading the company. They have been in the infosec community for a long time and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.
GF: What opportunities do you see for Digital Guardian in the short and long term future?
JvV: Customers are more concerned than ever with protecting their valuable information and preventing data loss, whether that be inadvertent or purposeful. With so many new channels of data egress, corporations need an effective and proven way to discover, classify and protect their sensitive data, whether that be structured data, such as payment information, or unstructured data, such as intellectual property and trade secrets. Digital Guardian has the unique position of protecting data throughout its lifecycle, no matter where it resides, whether that be on the endpoint, network or in the cloud.
GF: What’s your overall impression of the security industry in EMEA?
JvV: In EMEA data privacy and protection play a key role in organizations’ data security strategy. With the upcoming new GDPR regulations, DG and our partners can supply customers with the means to not only enable but also speed GDPR compliance while locking down their sensitive data and critical assets.
GF: What is the primary goal for your territory?
JvV: My goal is to build on our momentum by expanding our world-class sales team, strengthening relationships with current customers and partners and bringing our market-leading data protection platform to new customers in the region. In EMEA, DG is 100% channel-focused and we want to grow our partner base in all of EMEA to support our strong growth ambitions.
